What’s second best to beef burgers and hot dogs? TURKEY BURGERS!
Don’t get me wrong, it’s hard to say “no” to the all-American classics, but sometimes… say, after a Friday night rehearsal dinner food binge, followed by a Saturday night wedding with massive amounts of food… your body needs the healthy alternative.
Hubs and I had a ton of fun this weekend, celebrating in wedding festivities for his medical school buddy (also former groomsman!) and long-time girlfriend fiancé wife. As with almost every wedding, the cocktail hour was amazing.
I’m talking… a lobster tail and jumbo shrimp station, rack of lamb station, sushi station, White Castle burger station (my first time trying one!)…. lobster ravioli, lobster mac ‘n cheese, dumplings, ahi tuna… and champagne, followed by champagne and more champagne.
This is a photo of Hubs and I before we ate even more at the reception.
God, he’s so handsome!
As you can imagine, once Sunday rolled around we needed something light, healthy and delicious. Hubs gets the credit for grilling. Hubs gets the credit for grilling.
These garden turkey burgers have a crunch from the onion, lovely garlic flavor (I used 2 cloves, but I won’t judge if you’re a garlic lover and use 4!) and fresh parsley.
Topping the burgers with caramelized onions was an after-thought, but I’m so glad I did! They add a sweetness to the savory burger that I know you’ll absolutely love.
Garden Turkey Burgers with Caramelized Onions
Yields 6 burgers
Burger Ingredients
- 1 to 1-1/4 pounds ground turkey
- 1/2 yellow onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- Splash A1 steak sauce
- Sliced cheese (optional)
- Hamburger roll or flat bread
Caramelized Onion Ingredients
- 1/2 yellow onion, sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and pepper
Directions
- With your (clean!) hands or using a wooden spoon, mix the ground turkey, finely chopped onion, parsley, garlic, salt, pepper and A1 sauce together.
- Make 6 round patties, layering each between wax paper. Refrigerate for 15 minutes.
- Meanwhile, drizzle the olive oil in a large pan and heat to medium. Once hot, add the sliced onions and toss until evenly coated with the olive oil.
- Sprinkle the onions with salt and pepper, then reduce the heat to medium-low. Cook, stirring every so often, until the onions are golden brown (about 6-10 minutes).
- Set the caramelized onions aside, and grill your chilled turkey burgers until cooked throughout (about 5 minutes each side to get those nice grill lines).
- If you’re making a cheeseburger, add your cheese and remove once melted.
- Arrange your turkey burger on a bun, topped with the caramelized onions and your favorite condiments.
OH! You have an amazing recipe here! We love turkey burgers – will have to try your recipe next time.
P.S. You’re right, your husband is very handsome!
They’re very yummy… you can experiment/have fun with what you mix into the ground turkey. And hehe, thanks Valerie! He’s a keeper.

They’re quite amazing once you toss in some onions and fresh herbs! I bet crumbles of cheese mixed in would be equally as tasty!
