How are you getting in Christmas spirit? I started on Black Friday. While people subjected themselves to herds of crazies at the mall, I carefully packed away my pumpkin and autumn decor and decorated for Christmas. Snowman tea towels hanging from my oven, strings of white lights wrapped around my balcony and an expertly arranged snow village on top of our dry bar (Hubs now claims our hutch looks like it’s from Pottery Barn. Love him.).
And with those festive decorations comes fun, sparkly DIY ornaments! Whether arranged in a centerpiece bowl, adorned on your freshly cut Fraser Fir or packaged in pretty bags as gifts, these ornaments instantly get you in the holiday spirit!
Since my DIY Vintage Christmas Ornaments have been a top post for the past few weeks, I thought I’d do a “version two” of the ornament. And what do you know, it’s on the 1 year anniversary of that post! I’d love to say I planned that!
Just like that vintage ornament, you begin by hot glue gunning block letters together (6 max or it won’t fit in the ornament!). I chose “Santa” for this one, but be creative with the reindeer names, Christmas movie characters or someone’s name.
I found these mini Christmas bulbs in the miniatures/button aisle at my local craft store. I thought it would be cute to hot glue two of them together, but that’s an optional step if you don’t feel like burning your fingers.
While at the craft store, I saw EXTRA glittery, sparkly, amazing fake snow that I just HAD to buy. I promise that if you use that type of snow you’ll have sparkles all over your clothes (wear black for extra jolly contrast!), on your face and maybeeee in your mouth. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

DIY Christmas Lights Ornament
Supplies
- Clear glass ornaments
- 4 or 5 Mini Christmas Lights button accessories (example here; I bought mine in the button aisle at Michael’s, but it’s not showing up online!)
- Block letters
- Hot glue gun
- Funnel
- Fake snow with lots of glitter (like this!) (note: if you don’t get one with sparkles, add a little white glitter to your ornament)
- Ribbon (not pictured)
Directions
- Arrange the block letters into a favorite Christmas word (no more than 6 letters long or it won’t fit!).
- Using a hot glue gun, glue the letters together (make sure they are the right way up!). As you glue them, press the blocks together.
- While your block letters cool, hot glue two of the ornaments together.
- Drop your Christmas word into the ornament (try your best to make it right-side up).
- Next, use a funnel to add about 2 tablespoons worth of snow to the ornament.
- Drop the mini Christmas lights around the block letters (1 two-bulb that you glued together, and the remaining singles).
- Hot glue the rim of the ornament, secure its top and tie a ribbon to finish.
