So much has happened since my December 2013 “Bites of Life: Part 2” post – for one, Fancy Fork received a head-to-toe makeover! From humble beginnings as a WordPress.com blog, Fancy Fork has morphed into a ferocious self-hosted blog on WordPress.org!
Turning Fancy Fork into a self-hosted blog wasn’t a walk in the park (so many details!), but I was determined to fulfill my New Year’s resolution and I’m so happy that I did.
Along the way I constantly referred to an article written by Amy’s Healthy Baking on “How to Start (Or Switch To) a Self-Hosted Blog.” It’s a fantastic tutorial that I strongly recommend.
Enough work. The past few months have been so much fun! Starting with… snagging an amazing Pier 1 Imports bargain with this counter stool side table that matched perfectly with our guest room color scheme. Hey, it’s the little things!
Attending my very first beer festival with Hubs & friends and learning that: #1 – everyone wears pretzel or bagel (yes, you read that right) necklaces and #2 – if you share drinks with someone that’s sick, no you’re not Superman, you will get sick for 3 weeks (bah!).
Seeing a rainbow in February. FEBRUARY! Life is getting better.
Watching the season finale of Downton Abbey in style. Oh, yeah.
Singing at the top of our lungs at an Imagine Dragons concert with one of my BFFs Anna, Hubs and friends. And at said concert, learning that lighters have been replaced with cell phone flashlights. Am I that old?
Making my very first key lime pie for a “Pi Day Party” on March 14 and LOVING IT (recipe here)!
Going for my first 2014 run outside at 5:30pm – thank you, daylight savings time! Yes, this is a very big deal!
Learning that BYOB painting classes with best friends are freaking awesome! Despite my peacock looking like a penguin (example on left; mine is on the right), I still received my Mom’s seal of approval. Isn’t that what Mom’s are for?
Going to Los Angeles for a work conference with 5 days work with fabulous friends and 4 days pleasure with Hubs and our BFF, Rob!
Instantly falling in love with California. From sunny skies and pristine beaches to the amazing food and lifestyle, it was extremely hard to board the plane back to rainy 40-degree New Jersey.
Learning that when visiting LA, you can’t see everything. Spend 2-3 hours in Hollywood, then get the heck out of there! Visit Santa Monica and Venice Beach, eat lunch on the beach in Malibu, hike Runyon Canyon Park, grab a donut at Randy’s Donuts, see up-and-coming talent at the [haunted!] Comedy Store on Sunset…
And now, and much as I hate to admit, it’s back to the grind…

Thank you, Valerie! I still have a ways to go before I master this whole self-hosting thing, but it’s a start! Which suitor do you think Mary will choose? And, yes, it was an awesome trip to CA! Having serious withdrawals at the moment.
