This spring has been quite the adventure. Lots of time with family and friends, sunshine stretching out the days making way for warmer weather and a complete sense of renewed energy. So far, 2014, you have been a pretty awesome year.
Starting this spring off with a few favorite things. Hubs absolutely thrilled to be flying a helicopter drone (just look at that face; that smile lights up my world!). My apartment’s pool turning purple at night (my favorite color).
An Easter that wouldn’t be complete without the semi-hard peeps that my grandmother is notorious for (including her idea of impaling the chicks on straws for a nice Easter presentation LOL). And finally, a furry nest of baby bunnies (BABY BUNNIES!) in my mother-in-law’s backyard. I could fall apart at the cuteness.
Having the privilege to check out the diviest of dive bars early this spring, Loop Lounge in Passaic, NJ. I can’t even begin to describe the crowd at this place. It borders on alternative-meets-goth, but in a fun Southern Californian sort of way. Hubs and I rocked out to our favorite alt-pop songs (cue Yeah Yeah Yeahs “Heads Will Roll”) and enjoyed some really cheap beer. And apparently this is where My Chemical Romance got started.
Joining a Run or Dye 5K to benefit MDA with ERA Justin Realty Co. and one of my work besties at the Meadowlands. Loved looking at her perfect blonde hair and white shirt and saying, “We’re real friends right?” then proceeding to dump pink all over her head. That’s what friends are for!
Enjoying another love… cappuccino! But not just any cappuccino. Oh, no. One of my oldest BFFs and I sat sidewalk side in NYC’s Greenwich Village to enjoy an iced version of the “the first caffe in the United States to serve Cappuccino” at Caffe Reggio. Highly recommended.
Having a nice little bike ride through NYC. Or so I thought when I signed up for the NYC Five Boro Bike Tour. Nearly 45 miles later on top of the famous Verrazano Bridge, Hubs and I were never so grateful for our ridiculous padded cycling pants (see upper-left photo). Holy butt pain.
Rocking out to TLC’s “Waterfalls” because… why not? Just stick to the rivers and the lakes that you’re used to…
Loving every moment of the Mothers Day Tea I set up for my mom, aunts, cousins and grandma. Endless pots of tea? Tiny sandwiches? Dainty scones? You don’t have to ask me twice. And no, as the only blonde (minus my brother) in the family, I am not adopted.
Nerding out by buying this 1,000 piece puzzle from Target. Growing up my Mom would spread out a puzzle on the dining room table, with everyone completely a section. As an adult, nothing is more relaxing than a jigsaw puzzle and a big glass of wine.
Making a very hard decision to leave my company, ERA Real Estate, after five years (!!) of going on amazing trips, meeting incredible people and learning the ins and outs of marketing. I made my Sinful Cheesecake Bars that went like crazy. Thankfully Hubs and I had two weeks of vacation before my new job began…
So we went road-tripping up to Woodstock, NY to poke around the eclectic shops and have lunch. We even went to Hubs’ childhood cliff jumping spot in the Catskills. You couldn’t pay me enough to ever jump into that freezing water.
Spending time with Hubs’ cousin from Arizona as we took him and his girlfriend to the cutest town of New Hope, PA. Window shopping, lunch in an old cathedral and wine tasting… followed by dinner at the Triumph Brewery in Princeton, NJ. Yes, I even bought my first scrunchy since 1996.
Saying adieu to New York Harbor as Hubs and I sailed off into the sunset en route to Bermuda! Our last week of endless cocktails, no cooking and shameless ordering of dessert every night. Be sure to try Bermuda’s famous Dark ‘N Stormy cocktail… where ginger beer meets Gosling’s Black Seal Rum.
Smiling like crazy as fireworks lit up the night sky in the middle of the ocean. Hubs trying les escargots for the first time (apparently they taste like clams, if you’re into that sort of thing). And, being SO EXCITED to see the puzzle I just finished (few photos up) outside of the ship’s Italian restaurant. Thank you to Hubs for taking my photo with it. I was just too excited.
Giggling like I’m 16 again because when you see it…
Exploring the Crystal Cave in Bermuda. Taking a photo of Hubs and later laughing that it looks like he’s performing a magic trick. Loving all the funky looking trees that were just ASKING to be climbed!
Heading back to reality… and to a pretty awesome new job at Benjamin Moore & Co. I’m constantly surrounded by color palettes and creative people. What’s more to love?
Going all color crazy and signing up for yet ANOTHER color run – Color Me Rad. Acting like ballerinas as we pranced around the course in our DIY Tutus. I took the most colorful shower.
And finally, thank you to my local A&P supermarket for reminding me of Madonna’s wise words: “Don’t go for second best, baby, put your love to the test (you know, you know, you got to). Make him express how he feels and maybe then you’ll know your love is real.”
